Rad Shipping Systems
Shielded Type A Transport Containers for Radionuclides
Eichrom Technologies takes pride in designing, manufacturing, and distributing premium Type A shipping containers tailored for safe transportation of radionuclides in syringes and vials, adhering strictly to UN model regulations. Our shielded RAD SHIPPING SYSTEMS (RSS) are built for durability, operational efficiency, ergonomic use, and space minimization, making them ideal for domestic and international shipping of liquid radioactive materials such as PET radiopharmaceuticals, nuclear medicine radioisotopes, and CFR part 61 samples from nuclear power plants.
Our Type A containers are the preferred choice for transporting Tc-99m, Ga-68, and F-18 radiopharmaceuticals, widely utilized in medical diagnosis and treatment. These shielded containers are designed to meet Yellow II label criteria, with surface radiation levels not exceeding 50 mRem/hr and 1 mRem/hr at 1 meter. Through advanced Monte Carlo N-Particle (MCNP) technology, our experts have maximized radionuclide activity while reducing package weight and size to optimize transport efficiency.
Constructed from a robust polyethylene shell and polished stainless steel, Eichrom’s Type A shipping containers offer unmatched durability and resistance. These reusable containers are equipped with ultra-strong hardware, integrated shipping label frames, and minimized case dimensions. Inside, the containers feature stainless steel pigs, hygienic surfaces, waterproof seals, and polyethylene foam cushioning to ensure secure transport of medical radioisotope vials and syringes. Each unit is lockable, stackable, and designed for easy storage and stowage.
With over 30 years of experience in shielding design through our sister company, NPO, Eichrom Technologies collaborates closely with clients to provide custom solutions tailored to the unique needs of the radiopharma industry. Our shielded transport containers are engineered to meet the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and durability required for transporting radioactive materials.

Optimized Shielding with MCNP
Monte Carlo N-Particle (MCNP) is an advanced software package used by nuclear scientists to simulate radiation interactions within a modeled environment to identify and optimize the most effective shielding design. By inputting data on a radionuclide’s gamma/neutron spectrum, along with the material’s geometry and composition, MCNP can accurately predict dose rates in any specified location. Eichrom leverages MCNP to evaluate shielding materials, optimize placement, and analyze multiple configurations to achieve maximum dose reduction while minimizing MCNP RSS Simulation weight and overall size.
