Eichrom’s Diphonix resins have the unique ability to selectively remove metals and radionuclides from aqueous solutions. These high-performance, gel-type cation resins display exceptional ionic selectivity, tremendous capacity and a rapid rate of compellation. The selectivity, capacity, and exchange kinetics of these Eichrom resins enable performance enhancements in a wide array of process applications where selective separation is important.

In contrast to other commercially available ion exchange resins, Eichrom’s Diphonix resins are polyfunctional, containing diphosphonic and sulfonic acid groups chemically bonded to a styrene-divinylbenzene polymer. The unique diphosphonic acid ligands are responsible for the metal ion specificity, while sulfonic acid ligands within the polymer matrix enhance metal ion accessibility into the polymer network and significantly improve the exchange kinetics.

Eichrom’s Diphonix ion exchange resins are ideally suited to:

Water Treatment – Removal of metal ions from drinking water

Ultra-purification – Metal recovery from rinse waters and process streams, and the ultra-purification of acidic process solutions.

Metallurgical Processing Industries – Applications where selective metal separations are important, such as hydrometallurgy and metal finishing.

Treatment of Radioactive Effluents – Critical recycling and waste minimization applications in nuclear installations such as power plants and DOE facilities; run-off remediation applications for uranium mines and other mining operations.

Industrial Waste Water Treatment – Industries such as oil refining, chemical processing, metal processing and mining where elimination of toxic metals from discharge streams is an increasing concern.

Environmental Remediation – Environmental remediation of process streams such as the aqueous solutions resulting from soil washing. These wash solutions are often contaminated with radionuclides and other metals that can be removed and recovered. Eichrom’s ion exchange resins are also applicable in ground water and mixed waste remediation projects where the resins’ selectivity and capacity dramatically lower regeneration demands and disposal costs.
