Eichrom to Present at the 2009 National Environmental Monitoring Conference in San Antonio, Texas
Tara Laroche, Eichrom's Technical Sales Chemist for Procept® Rapid Dioxin Assay, has been selected to present details of the validation of U.S. EPA Method 4430 as a platform presentation at the 2009 National Environmental Monitoring Conference. This year's conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas August 10-14, 2009. This presentation will be part of Heidelore Fiedler's Session, Chlorinated Dioxins and Other Halogenated Organics, that will be held on Tuesday morning, August 11th, between 9-12am. An abstract of the paper being presented follows:
The Procept Rapid Dioxin Assay (Eichrom Technologies, LLC) is an Aryl hydrocarbon-Receptor (AhR) based assay which utilizes Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) to determine levels of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and furans (PCDD/F) in samples in either a quantitative or screening mode. The Procept assay has previously been shown to yield results for soil and sediment samples which correlate very well with PCDD/F TEQ values obtained by gas chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry (GC-HRMS). The results of a multiple laboratory evaluation of the Procept Assay for the analysis of PCDD/F in soils and sediments will be described. The multiple laboratory study was performed as part of the evaluation process for inclusion in the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) SW-846 Methods Manual. Participants in the study included Eichrom Technologies, LLC, LABERCA (French Reference Laboratory), The Ontario Ministry for the Environment, and Test America, Knoxville (Commercial Laboratory). Each participant received and analyzed 66 soil samples exhibiting PCDD/F contaminations ranging from 0-1000 pg/g TEQ. Results were evaluated in a screening mode at 50 pg/g TEQ and in a quantitative mode, comparing directly to the GC-HRMS TEQ value. Following the completion of the multiple laboratory evaluation and committee review of the data, the analysis of soils and sediments by the Procept Assay was included in the US EPA SW-846 methods manual as method number 4430.
