Eichrom Prepares for Multi-lab SW-846 Validation
May 11, 2007

Eichrom continues its successful development of the Procept® Rapid Dioxin Assay by gearing up for the multi-lab phase of SW-846 validation. The EPA publication SW-846, Test Methods for Evaluating Solid Waste, Physical/Chemical Methods, published by the Office of Solid Wastes (OSW), is the official compendium of analytical and sampling methods that have been evaluated and approved for use in complying with the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations. SW-846 functions primarily as a guidance document setting forth acceptable, although not required, methods for the regulated and regulatory communities to use in responding to RCRA-related sampling and analysis requirements (1).

During the summer months, selected laboratories from around the world will be testing the Procept kit using both real-world and certified-prepared dioxin samples. These laboratories will get the first look and try at the new technology. The participating laboratories are scheduled to receive complementary training from Eichrom before using the screening kits on their own. The data produced from this segment of the validation will be used to evaluate Procept by the SW-846 committee. Once validated, the Procept method will be included in the SW-846 manual and can be used as a dioxin screening technique by environmental laboratories, environmental engineers, and other testing facilities.

If you would like to be considered for the SW-846 multi-lab validation, please email: info@eichrom.com subject line: Procept
